Responsible for sourcing new investment opportunities, providing operational due diligence, and leveraging prior agribusiness experience for portfolio companies.

Prior to Arable, Mr. Karlen was the General Manager of Bolthouse Farms, one of the leading carrot companies in the world.  While at Bolthouse Farms, Mr. Karlen had full P&L responsibility for a $500M revenue business unit, which included 30,000+ acres, over 2,000 employees, and multiple processing facilities throughout America and Canada.  With over 19 years of agriculture and operational experience, Mr. Karlen brings a unique seed to sales mentality to the Arable team. 

Mr. Karlen earned his B.A. in Economics from CSUB.  Born and raised in Bakersfield, Ca, Zak is a father of two boys, Koen and Drake, and enjoys fly fishing, golf, and anything that has competition involved.

Responsible for agriculture management and oversight for all acquisitions and ongoing operations.


Prior to Arable, Mr. Yurosek was the Head of Agriculture Operations for Cottonwood Ag Management, the agriculture asset management team for BMGI/Cascade Investment, the private holding company for Bill and Melinda Gates.  Mr. Yurosek led the team responsible for acquisition and operational performance for a portfolio of agriculture assets, including 150,000+ acres of land, vertically integrated farming and food processing businesses primarily located in the United States. 

Mr. Yurosek comes from a long history of farming and agriculture in the central valley of California.  Before joining Cottonwood Ag Management, he spent 14 years at Bolthouse Farms in his hometown of Bakersfield, CA.  When he left Bolthouse, he was the Vice President of Agriculture and Regional Operation responsible for $550 million in revenue and 750 employees. 

Mr. Yurosek has an MBA with a concentration in Agricultural Business from Colorado State University and Bachelor of Science from Colorado State University with a major in Agricultural Business and Economics.  He graduated with distinction while playing college football for the Rams.  Derek and his wife Kellie have 5 children and live in Bakersfield, CA.

Responsible for administrative operations and human resources.


Prior to Arable, Ms. Freeman held multiple roles at Coldstream Wealth Management including, Director of Human Resources, Client Service Team Manager, and general office manager. Ms. Freeman has worked in human resources and business operations for more than 15 years and completed her studies in Human Resource Management at the University of Washington, and has current SPHR and SHRM-SCP certifications.

Ms. Freeman comes from a large family, and has four children of her own. In her spare time, Tanya can be found attending one of her many family activities, cycling, or hiking one of the beautiful trails in the Pacific Northwest with her dog.

Mr. Richards is also a co-founder and a managing director at HarvestWest Investments, a fund put together to invest in farmland in the Pacific Northwest.   HarvestWest was fully invested as of February 2016 and is now managing over 13,000 acres of farmland in WA, OR and ID that is leased out to local farmers.  He was responsible for fund raising for this venture, general management, sourcing and evaluating land, performing financial analysis, and structuring transactions to acquire farmland properties along with the ongoing leases. 

Prior to HarvestWest, Mr. Richards was the CEO and owner of Rung Industries, a manufacturer of equipment used in sand and gravel pits and quarries throughout WA, ID, OR, AK, MT and western Canada. He acquired Rung in a leveraged buyout in 2001. Mr. Richards sold Rung Industries in December 2010 to a strategic buyer.

He previously held positions in business development in the technology industry, as an analyst in Lehman Brothers’ investment banking group and as a CPA at Deloitte & Touche. Mr. Richards has a BA in Business Administration, with Accounting and Finance Concentrations from the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington.  Greg and his wife Alison live in Bellevue, WA with their 3 children.

Prior to Arable, Mr. Brenes was a Senior Vice President at Evergreen Pacific Partners, a private equity firm based in Seattle, WA. Previously, Mr. Brenes was a Regional Director of Corporate Strategy at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, an Associate in Morgan Stanley’s Investment Banking Division, and a combat decorated Navy SEAL.

Mr. Brenes holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from University of San Diego, and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. Chris and his wife live on Mercer Island, WA with their 2 children.

Prior to Arable, Mr. Hanson spent five years at Graham Partners, a private equity firm based in Newtown Square, PA, focused on advanced manufacturing and industrial technology businesses.

Mr. Hanson earned his B.A. in Economics from Colgate University. Originally from the Philadelphia area, Hunter enjoys playing golf, skiing, and hiking in his spare time.
